Each relay is a live WebSocket on this device. 4–8 is enough. More copies the same chat, uses battery and data, and shows your IP to more operators — it does not make a bigger room.

Placechat is a static client: HTML, CSS, and JavaScript files. Whoever publishes those files is not operating a chat service, a social network, a hosting platform, or a user database. This origin does not receive, store, index, or moderate your messages. There is no Placechat server for chat.
Chat, votes, reviews, and presence leave your device only toward public infrastructure that you choose or that the client calls on your behalf: Nostr relays, OpenStreetMap / OpenFreeMap / Overpass, and similar third parties. Those operators are independent. The person who put this page online does not run them, does not control what they keep or delete, does not see your messages, and is not a publisher or editor of user content.
Your browser signs events with a key stored on this device and publishes them to relays you select. Map tiles and named places come from OSM-related services. Relays and map operators have their own terms, logs, and retention. Copies can remain on relays, other devices, archives, and search indexes. A delete or edit in this client is only a request; nobody here can guarantee removal from the internet.
You alone are responsible for everything done with your key: messages, votes, reviews, nicknames, links, and presence. You choose the relays. You are the author and publisher of that content toward those third parties — not Placechat and not the operator of this origin. Other people may copy or re-share what you post. If you lose the key, that is your loss. You agree to use this client lawfully and to hold the operator harmless for claims arising from your use or your content.
You may not use this client to commit crimes, harass people, spread malware, spam relays, or share or link to illegal content — including any sexual content involving minors. Abuse is forbidden. If you do it, it is solely your act. The operator of this origin does not publish, adopt, or endorse user content.
Links in chat are written by users and open other websites. Placechat and the operator do not control those destinations. You will be asked to confirm before a link opens. Follow links at your own risk.
This client is provided “as is”, with no warranty of any kind: availability, fitness, security, privacy from relays or map services, or that a room is empty of abuse. The operator has no duty to monitor, take down, or preserve content. To the maximum extent allowed by law, the operator is not liable for user content, third-party services, lost keys, lost data, or any damages from using this page. Using Placechat means you accept these terms. If a court disallows a part, the rest still applies. If a translation differs, the English text is the reference.
